How much is the Apple student discount?

The typical Apple education discount is 5-10%. For instance, students can score a MacBook regularly priced at $1,299 for $1,249. As a bonus, they’ll receive 90 days of complimentary telephone support and a year of repair coverage. Students can also get an iPad regularly priced at $329 for $309.

While the Apple educational discount may not save students the most money up front, the long-lasting and virtually virus-free devices will prove to be a good choice to stay running in college.

What can (and can’t) you buy with the Apple discount?

The Apple discount covers any of Apple’s featured Mac devices found on their Apple Store for Education webpage. All MacBooks, iPads, and iMac models are eligible for the student discount. The discount also covers AppleCare for up to one year, which is especially useful for students living away from home who may need that extra technical support or damage protection. Students also get a discounted rate for 2 additional years of AppleCare and accidental damage coverage.

The discount also applies to the Pro Apps Bundle, which includes Final Cut Pro X, Logic Pro X, Motion 5, Compressor 4, and MainStage 3 for $199. Typically, Final Cut Pro X alone costs $299 — so this app bundle deal is an especially impressive gift to those creative students.

Finally, students and teachers can get a discount on Apple Music for 4 years. Students only pay $4.99/month after three months free, which at full price costs users $9.99/month.

However, the discount for students excludes iPhones and iPads. Also, it does not cover Apple accessories, like cases, Apple Watch accessories, headphones, and any replacement items needed for the devices. So, take good care of those MacBook chargers — a replacement will cost a minimum of $49, depending on the device.

How to qualify for Apple educational pricing

Anyone looking for the Apple educational discount must have a valid ID or proof of enrollment at a post-secondary establishment, like a college or university. Students and parents must provide documentation to prove they are enrolled in a college or university, or have a child who is enrolled. Teachers can get in on a discounted rate for these products and services. Any teacher or professor with a .edu email qualifies, as well.

In order to get the discount, students can visit an Apple Store and bring their ID or acceptance letter. To purchase online, students and teachers can get started by following this link and searching their school. Once they apply and are accepted into the discount program, they are free to purchase any of the discounted items they want!

Are there limits?

Apple limits the discount to the purchase of the following items in one academic year:

  • one qualifying desktop computer
  • one Mac Mini
  • one MacBook
  • two iPads
  • two pieces of software
  • two display monitors

So while you can purchase all of those items in one year, don’t try to outfit your entire family with iPads. At least, not at the same time.
