How does the Madewell education discount work?

Madewell is a sister store to J.Crew. In fact, they are owned by the same company, so the discount works almost exactly like the J.Crew deal for students and teachers.

Madewell (and J.Crew) are different than other stores because of who gets eligibility for the discounts. All teachers qualify, no matter what grade level you teach. College students also qualify for the 10% discount, but only college students. High school students and younger don’t get the deal.

Regardless, as long as you are in one of these two categories, simply ask about the discount at checkout and show your school ID.

The fine print:

Offer valid at Madewell stores only. Not valid on madewell.com orders. Discount cannot be applied to previous purchases, alterations or the purchase of gift cards or third-party branded merchandise. Offer cannot be redeemed for cash or combined with any other promotion. Must present school ID at time of purchase to redeem.

About Madewell

Madewell was originally founded in 1937 as a manufacturer of workman’s clothing. It shut down in the 1980s, but the name was revived in 2006 by J.Crew when they bought the rights to the trademark. Today, Madewell exclusively sells women’s clothing. For a fascinating look at the history of Madewell, this article by Dan Nosowitz is well worth the read.
